HOW DO I CONNECT WITH GOD IN THIS SEASON?

Experiencing God in Troubling Times

Lesson Three: How Do I Connect with God in This Season?

“Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:16

When the Winds Are Swirling

Have you ever been caught outside when the wind was swirling? I don’t mean when there was a gentle breeze or even a gust of wind. Have you ever been caught outside when the wind was really swirling? It is hard to keep your balance when the wind is swirling. That is how this time feels for many. It feels like one thing after another happens to throw you off balance. How do you connect with God in a season like this? Let’s examine the word together to find answers to this question

Connecting with God from Three Places

Most people find themselves in one of three places during this season: a place of anxiety, despair, and/or fear; a place of hopelessness and/or doubt; or a place of faith and expectancy. The good news is; we can connect with God no matter which place we are in. Let’s see how.

From a place of anxiety, despair, and/or fear

Can we find in scripture ways to connect with God when we are in this place?

Consider the following passages:

Psalm 94:18-19

Psalm 43:5

Isaiah 35:4

What do we learn from these verses about connecting to God from a place of anxiety, despair, and/or fear?

How have you learned to connect to God when in a place of anxiety, despair, and/or fear?

From a place of hopelessness and/or doubt

There are those who feel hopeless and are doubting in this season. Is it possible to connect with God in that place? Let’s see.

Jeremiah 2:25

Mark 11:20-24

James 1:5-8

What do we learn in these verses to help us connect with God from a place of hopelessness and doubt?

What are the steps you have taken to connect with God when you feel hopeless and doubting?

From a place of faith and expectancy

We all want to connect with God from the place of faith and expectancy. This is the ideal place from which to approach God. Let’s see how we connect with Him from this place.

Let’s examine the following passages:

Psalm 9:9 & 10

Psalm 31:14-16

Hebrews 4:16

How do these verses help us connect with God from a place of faith and expectancy?

What does it look like to connect with God from a place of faith and expectancy?

What prevents us from connecting with God from a place of faith and expectancy?

Conclusion

The lesson we learn from these passages is that no matter what place we are in we can connect with God. That is really good to know in this season when the place we are in may be less than ideal. Decide today to connect with God no matter where you find yourself.
